I love my IPhone

Sorry that you hate the phone, Adam. I am never going to stop calling you. I suggested you upgrade your phone so you too will love the telephone as I do.

I have loved phones since I was a little kid.  Prank phone calls growing up in Brooklyn with my best friend Vicki.   Hours and hours torturing other humans until my dad finally got sick and tired of it. Those long calls were very expensive back in the day. He finally ripped the phone out of the wall. That was meanest that I have every seen my dad. I guess he did not think it was hilarious like we did. He was even angrier at that then when I burned the kitchen down (another story for another time).

I also liked walkie-talkies when I was a kid. They were a blast. I bought a great pair a few years ago which drove everyone crazy. Wonder why? If you remember CB's...come on, how much fun were those?

arnold_lori-thumb.jpg (Andrulla loves the phone as much as me)

Communication is a good thing any way you look at it. How about femalemuscle talklive, (ADAM) that is communication between female bodybuilders and people who want to talk to them at it's best. That program has been a success since we started it 14 plus years ago and still going strong. Pardon the pun.

I have had many cell phones over the years. Probably more then most because I drop them down the toilet a few times a year and drop heavy dumbbells on them while I am training.

Cell phones have been nothing but problems for me and I still love them. I do not have a home phone and I have not for years. There is no point.

When the IPhone came out, I was hesitant for a week or so whether or not I should buy one. I finally said no way. I did not want to become a total geek who has to run out and buy the latest tech toy when it hits the stores. No way, that's not me. Then Joe shows up and hands me a box, "Oh what could this be with a big apple stamped on it?"

The rest is history. Turned it on, messed with it for a day, then I put my favorite music on it, I text messaged all my friends and so easily checked the weather all over the world and also the time on every part of the planet, and then surfed the internet to find the movie times, checked my email, took amazing photos, used the fun little notepad, watched youtube when I was totally bored, set my calendar to let me know one day before my Neil Young concert tickets were, made great friends with map system since I am always getting lost and inevitably guess what happened? No, I did not drop it down the toilet.

(I have taken many photos of Lillybelle with my iphone)

I feel madly in love with my IPhone. It is  just like having a little baby. I go to the genius bar with it at the mac store and hang out with other geeks and learn when the new software is coming out and what other cool things may be  out in the near future.  It's a cult, sort of. Sounds neurotic and even corny.

I am going to say it:

I love my IPhone more then granola. There, take that Adam.

Blue-ray TV and big giant bubbles

Today I visited the Apple Store in Midtown Manhattan which is open 24/7. I played with the new I-Phone. The store was totally packed and I had to wait on line to touch it. I am still not sure if I will get one. It was an immediate love/hate thing I had going on with it, just like I do with this crazy city I live in. How could one little piece of metal be allowed to be so important in one's life.

It sort of bugged me holding it and it is still bugging me that it had so much control over me. I had to play with it and check out every function. I did not have a choice.

[It will never only be about technology for me. I still love blowing bubbles the old fashioned wayP1000153framed.jpg

I then headed over to the very large  Sony store on Madison Avenue. This store is wild. It has all the latest LCD TVs and Blue-ray players, movie projectors, flat screens, all in living room setups. The store is set up so you can sit down in  modern and comfortable couches and chairs. I almost fell asleep after I relaxed and started watching the movies that were playing. Blue-ray technology is quite amazing. I have never seen a clearer picture, it was almost too clear. I could see every pimple and nose hair on the face of the actor's faces.  Set up for the rich and famous, or maybe just people who have tons of money and do not know what to do with it.

My dad's wife Maria, is a makeup artist as well as real artist. She told me that because the Blue-ray is so clear, she now has to air brush her clients faces for TV and  movies. This means she had to drag a heavy tank around with here whenever she goes to work.

Life is getting complicated.

Blackberry Addicts

[I thought I was dependent. This is unbelievable. I will never let this happen to me, I think] On Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time, technical problems cut off more than five million BlackBerry users in the United States from their cherished wireless e-mail. Service was restored 10 long, data-starved hours later. The BlackBerry blackout was grueling to many — and revealed just how professionally and emotionally dependent so many people had become on their pocket-size electronic lifelines.   060223_blackberry_hmed_10a.hmedium.jpg          Stuart Gold was in Phoenix on a business trip when the service went down. Mr. Gold, the marketing director for Omniture, a software firm, noticed ominous red X’s next to his outgoing e-mails. He is not proud of what happened next. “I started freaking out,” he said. “I started taking it apart. Turning it off. Turning it on. I took the battery out and cleaned it on my shirt. I was running around my hotel like a freak. It’s very sad. I love this thing.”

At 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, full of anxiety about the prospect of spending a traveling day untethered, Mr. Gold awoke and made a beeline for his still motionless phone. At 7 a.m., it started vibrating with activity. “I breathed a sigh of relief,” he said. “Life was good.”

Many people thought they were suffering alone. Lynn Moffat believed she had administered a fatal blow to her BlackBerry by dropping it early Tuesday in Grand Central Terminal. When Ms. Moffat, the managing director of the New York Theater Workshop, learned on the radio that the service disruption was widespread, “I was so relieved it wasn’t just me, but all my BlackBerry brothers and sisters,” she said.
blackberryLove.jpg Others cycled through complex waves of emotion, including a bit of paranoia. Zach Nelson, chief executive of NetSuite, a software firm, was entertaining his top sales representatives in Barbados when e-mail from his 600 other employees suddenly stopped arriving on his BlackBerry. “I started thinking people hadn’t shown up for work as a revolt for us going to the Caribbean,” he said.

Happy Thirtieth Birthday to the VHS Video Format

6308_11100682209.jpgIt was only 30 years ago this week that JVC received a IEEE milestone for development of the VHS Video along with releasing the first VHS player. You kicked that Betamax's ass right to the curb and you can celebrate three decaded later by watching HD DVD kick another Sony proprietary media to the curb, Blu-Ray.

I wasn't even alive at the time of your birth, but you still managed to kick-start my life of stealing video media with the help of recordable formats, like VHS. Some companies may still make VHS players, or combo players, but it is inevitable that you have died. Rest in peace VHS, rest in peace. link

Frogs, scooter, clothes and helmet for AIBO

sonyaiboaccs.jpg

A team of from ECAL (beware of the dwarfing web page: Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne) collaborated with researcher Frederic Kaplan (also known for his work on curiosity-driven robots) and interaction designer Martino d'Esposito to build a playroom where AIBO could engage in various new learning activities. After a few days, they came up with a set of smaller objects, toys and infrastructures that included a “universal gripper” with which the robot can pick up everyday objects, a special pen for the robot to doodle, a switch to control lamps and electrical devices, a mirror that takes into account the specific morphology of the robot’s head and the position of its sensors, various toys that jump or can be pushed or pulled, a rocking chair to take a nap, a raincoat, and even a children’s bike. None of these objects contained any technology, but each of them enlarged the robot’s range of possible activities, they acted as some kind of extensions of its body. link

PC's That Are a Lot Smaller Than a Breadbox

[Don't you just want one? It's so cute.]basics.span.jpg

Chris DiBona's work as manager of open-source programs for Google takes him on the road, where laptops grow heavier with every gate he passes in the airport. So he has been experimenting with piecing together the ultimate lightweight PC. The FrogPad can be operated with one hand. The most common letters require only one keystroke, others two or more. At the core of his ensemble is the OQO-01, a full-featured PC running Windows XP that is not much bigger than a pack of 3-by-5 index cards. It's measured in ounces (14), not pounds."I use both this and my cellphone in the same manner," he said. "They're read-only devices. I can do cursory work." The OQO comes with a built-in keyboard that can be tapped by the thumbs.

A Space-Age Habitat For Antkind

antworks_version2.jpgFascinating creatures ants. Sure you hate to see them in your socks or making a B-line for that pizza crust crumb you forgot to sweep up at the local LAN party. But let's give credit where credit is due. Ants are amazing. Ants can lift up to 20x their body weight! They have two stomachs and three eyes! They also have uncanny communication skills and amazing abilities to work together to achieve a common goal.

This miraculous gel, derived from a NASA Space experiment, serves as both habitat and nutrition for your ants - allowing you to watch in awe as they turn a brick of aqua-blue gel into a fascinating colony of tunnels. Never before have you been so capable of watching these awesome creatures at work.
