Women Make Better Crossing Guards

Every morning Downtown Kate crosses a particularly treacherous part of lower Manhattan.
Women on the job have been hit by bikes that are plummeting from the Williamsburg bridge. Last month one women had a heart attack on the job. Since then the women have been pulled and replaced by men.

The new crossing guards stay out of the fray. They stand on the side and say things like, "You better hurry." They are languorous men.
Downtownkate misses the small fiery women who stand in the middle of the street waving their arms and shouting at semi's,"What! You don't see me because I'm short?!"

She wonders, is this analogous to dating? Women seem to throw themselves into the middle of things while men keep themselves at at safe spectator distance. While this might be a more practical approach to dating it is far more practical to have a crossing guard who will risk their life to protect you.
Here here for women crossing guards!
