Fruity Career

I may have found the perfect job. I was on the Maui cliffs (Honokohau Bay) with my family and we stopped to see the surfers below. Being from Brooklyn, I have never really paid much attention to the surfers since the Coney Island Beaches have none, but we do have the Cyclone which just opened again for the summer. Good enough for me.

On the top of the cliff was a woman in a bright yellow truck, selling fresh pinapples. When she saw me she began yelling, "Buy a fresh pinapple for 5 dollars, taste it and if you don't think it's sweet enough, you don't have to buy it."

Of course I had to try the fresh fruit of Hawaii. One bite and, sure enough, it was the sweetest thing I had ever tasted. "I'll take two." I yelled back at the pinapple lady. "Cute it up into tiny pieces so I can gently eat this massive thing and not look ridiculous." She even put a straw in for me to drink the natural juice.

I asked, "Where are you from?." I was assuming Los Angeles or even Hawaii. She blurted out, "Hey, I'm from Brooklyn, born and raised in Sheepshead Bay. Been here 25 years. Came here for a visit and never left. Needed to start making some cash to raise my kids, so I started selling pinapples. It's a living."

Now, I'm thinking, wonder if she needs a business partner?
