Grey Gardens Sunny Insanity

Kate is thinking of the last conversation she had with the sexy beautiful grownup Lori Braun who is vacationing in Hawaii with her family.
(Has Lori gotten very little or is the drink very big?)
"Kate, I'm hiding in the bathroom from my mother." Lori whispered. "Oh no. She is rapping on the door. She is like a drill Sargent. I'm in boot camp. I have to go.." This coming from someone who was just telling Kate a few weeks ago," Kate, I miss my mom." Ok. This a sentiment Kate cannot understanding or comprehend. To each his own.
Now is seems Lori is trapped on an island with her mother. Mind you Lori's mom looks beautiful and fun
and interesting. But still, being far, far from home with your family is difficult. Parents given the opportunity, turn their grown children back into little children again, like it or not. It is a fact of life.
Kate is both fascinated and horrified by the mother/ daughter relationship. Recently there are posters advertising the HBO adaptation of "Grey Gardens" with Jessica Lang and Drew Barrymore as the Edies. Kate still hasn't recovered from seeing the Maysles 1975 documentary about the intensely dysfunctional relationship between a mother and daughter. She was wildly depressed after seeing it. There have been fashion spreads glamorizing Grey Gardens. She wonders when did mental illness become kooky fun?
Lori did say she is sleeping much, much better in Hawaii, so the situation does not seem so bad.
