Usher Video Receiving Martin Luther King Award in New York

I had the honor of attending the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) Martin Luther King, Jr. Reception and Awards Dinner in New York. (Repost)

My Photo of Usher During the Press Conference

Usher was suprisingly a down to earth, sweet guy and seriously attached to his mother.  My friend Scott and I took the high speed elevator to the 45th floor of the Sheraton Hotel and attended the V.I.P. Party, dinner and after party.

I shot this video of Usher during the press conference.  Also in this video is Ambassador John Bolton, the United States Ambassador the United Nations.

I am very grateful to Martin Luther King. Official segregation in the U.S. after WWII was no longer possible. It was going to end (relatively) peaceably or (very) violently. Fortunately, MLK advocated the former, which required an almost super-human fortitude of the people involved. An interesting read on this period of Civil Rights strategists, and the importance of a free press in general, is "The Race Beat" by Gene Roberts and Hank Klibanoff.
