Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta this week

From a small gathering of 13 balloons in 1972, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has grown to become the largest balloon event in the world. Held each year during the first week in October, the Balloon Fiesta attracts more than 700 balloons and 1000 pilots.

I missed the Balloon Fiesta this year, but I will go again soon. It is one of the most beautiful events that I have ever attended.

Yeah, hovering above power lines over an indian reservation in a hot air balloon at 6 a.m. is loads of fun! lol. Seriously, if you're in the right frame of mind, it's sweet. Not a scary ride at all, (except for the power lines).

It can be very dangerous. Tons of accidents each year. Gruesome ones too.

Hitting power lines can send the whole party up in flames, like the conclusion to Poe's Hop-Frog. (Would it be too sardonic to have a hot air balloon named 'Hop-Frog'!) I hope nothing bad like that will happen this year.
