Arnold Schwarzenegger celebrates his 60th birthday on Monday, holed up in Sacramento with legislators, trying to hammer out a long-overdue state budget. He, no doubt, longed to be in his native Austria where officials of his home town, the southern village of Thal Bei Graz, observed the occasion with strudel, schnitzel and a special gift for the governor _ the original street number from the house where he was born. Mayor Peter Urdl sent Schwarzenegger the enameled address -- Thal 145 -- and then retired the number. "This belongs to him," Urdl said. "No one here will ever be assigned that number again." Schwarzenegger, who emigrated to the United States in 1968 to pursue a career in bodybuilding and became a naturalized citizen in 1984, granted a birthday interview with the Vienna newspaper Kronen Zeitung. In it, the Republican governor took a none-to-veiled swipe at President Bush, saying his birthday wish would be for his adopted country to recover its international prestige. "My wish is that this great country once again gets the reputation it once had around the world," he said. link
