The weekend was not so bad after all
Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 13:29 Memorial Day has come and gone. I amazed myself by having a great weekend.
On Saturday, I actually did that thing I thought I was not going to do. The barbecue thing. I was invited to a friend's home in Short Hills, New Jersey, a beautiful home in an exclusive suburb.
We did all the things that people do at such gatherings. Met new and old friends, talked about the Sorpranos, barbecued chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers. Drank beer while floating on a raft in a heated pool, did shots of Patron, my favorite Tequila. Watched my friends get stoned. I do not smoke pot and I do not inhale if I do.
The swimming pool was glorious, complete with a waterfall and hot tub. It was surrounded by a beautiful forest bursting with hundreds of colors, all types of flowers, and strange statues from around the world, including a very large Buddha. Everybody partied together, from college students to baby boomers, everyone getting along ever so well . Hendrix blasting from invisible speakers. They had to drag me out to return me to urban Ho-Bacon.
Sunday Janet, I and some friends took a long drive south searching for a crafts fair that we had read about. We drove into the country looking for the fair for hours and hours. We never found it. Instead it turned into a long ride to nowhere. Had fun anyway. Janet slept the entire way home.
Monday I walked around Hoboken with some of my friends. We walked for miles because they wanted to get some "exercise". That was cool with me. I desperately wanted to go to the gym.
When I went past the gym during our walk, I ran up to the door to see if it was still open. Secretly wishing it was closed for Memorial Day so I would not feel guilty for missing another workout. Of course it was open. I sadly marched away knowing the gym would have to wait another day.
Enjoyed some crabs and oysters Monday evening. Memorial Day, a quiet Manhattan holiday night. One crab we ate was so big that I had to give it a name. Charlie.
I felt sad as I watched my friends rip it apart and feed tasty pieces of Charlie to each other.
All's well that ends well. I surprised myself by having a wonderful weekend and I hope
you did too.
