From Modern Art to Modern Botox
Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 13:34 I spent today with my Dad at the Museum of Modern Art. A stunning structure and presentation. Founded in 1929 by Rockefeller and other rich patrons, MoMA was redesigned by Yoshio Taniguchi, and the new MoMA features 630,000 square feet of new and redesigned space.
My father is a "real" artist and knows this museum like I know gyms. He dragged me around quickly explaining the works of many of his favourite artists. He has been doing museum tours with me since I was eight. He and my Mom took Bruce and me on a 13 country sweltering hot European museum tour when I was nine. I developed an apprication of the arts because I did not have a choice. Now I am grateful that I have art knowledge and, more importantly, appreciation.
I was blown away by the new MoMa exhibit of the Canadian photographer Jeff Wall. He has his photographs reproduced in enormous transparencies lit from behind by fluorescent bulbs, a “light box” format that was typically used for advertising. My museum membership is a wonderful thing for me and my friends whom join me there on a regular basis.
From this stimulating day with my Dad, I headed to the Number 1 train to Janet's house. Beautuful day and so many people outside wearing their finest clothing. I have decided that I admire an in-shape man in a suit. Not just any suit. It must be fitted and look expensive with stylish matching shiny shoes. I arrived at Janet's place and we headed out for a drink and something to eat.
Met up with Athur, the former owner of "The Roadhouse", a favourite of ours, who sold it and now owns a new place over on Murray Street deep in Tribeca near the World Trade Center. Arthur fell many feet from a scaffold and broke his leg in too many places. It was not healing properly and the doctors finally discovered that during surgery one of the surgeons had not washed his hands properly. His leg became contaminated with the E. coli virusand he has to be operated on again. Arthur thinks he has a multi-million dollar law suit.
Met my friend Vinnie, the Six Feet Seven Inch bartender at the Racoon Lodge. We drink free there. I ordered club soda. How boring am I? Met a few Austrailian bankers. Janet asked if they wrestled geckos. I played music on the new super fancy jukebox with a very polite and rugged Aussie guy.
Tired today....Janet picked me up early in the morning and we headed to her botox appointment somewhere in Jersey. I sat there as her friend and doctor stuck needles all over poor Janet's face. I had to turn away and sit down. I thought I could handle it. I could not. When the doctor was finished, I looked at Janet to see if there were any less lines. Maybe it takes time to work. It is raining hard now. We stopped in front of my office and I jumped out before Janet could go into oncoming traffic on another Hoboken one way street. Time to work, drink green tea, take a nap and go to the gym or something else. Over and out!
