Is it 1980 again? Hello, operator...

Is there anything more "lo-tech" than the telephone? I hate the telephone, I hate cell phones, I hate iPhones - I hate ALL telephones.
It should come as a surprise to no one that since I hate the telephone, Lori LOVES the telephone. She can talk on the phone for hours and then talk some more. I just don't get it.
Phones are so invasive - you can't really multi-task when talking on the phone, it is just too difficult. There is no way I can do my job while talking on the phone; you cannot code and talk at the same time - it just ain't possible.
I much prefer staying in contact via instant messenger - any flavor will do. I speak AOL, and ICQ, and MSN, and Googletalk - I am fluent in all IM protocols. It is much easier to get an IM, finish the task I am working on and answer when it is convenient to do so than it is to STOP what I am doing to start talking on the damn phone.
Does anyone under the age of 40 really like talking on the phone? I don't, and my kids and all of their friends are all text'rs. None of my relatives or in laws who are close to my age like the phone either. I am much easier to reach via email than telephone (ask Lori!) and getting me to answer my cell phone is like pulling teeth.
What about you? DO you prefer the phone or email? IM or texting? Drop me a line and let me know :-)
Peace,
Adam
