Marilyn Monroe would have turned 80 this month

Marilyn lifted long before Madonna. I have always sensed her inner strength.

10008949.jpgBorn: 1 June 1926 Birthplace: Los Angeles, California Died: 4 August 1962 Marilyn photo gallery click here Marilyn Monroe would have turned 80 today. There is a great slideshow of pictures commemorating her life over on Slate, like this one of her working out with dumbbells in her jeans and a bikini top. I've done my share of research on Norma Jean and I remember reading that her fear of being fat inspired her to do things that were way ahead of her time where health and fitness was concerned, like working out with weights and jogging way back (when this was unheard of for women). Despite what she may have thought, Marilyn always looked great.

  • Marilyn: Here's wishing you a very Happy Birthday on that big movie lot in the sky ...

This is a cool photo. Interesting to me that my mom was born just a few months before Norma Jean and is still going strong.

Given the choice, would you rather have an action-packed short life, or a long, relatively uneventful one?

Also, it may be sacriligeous to say, but when it comes to beauty (or muscles), Lori, you blow Marilyn Monroe away.
Yes, I love that photo and many more of her. I have a certain respect for Marilyn.
Your mother must have loved to share birthdays with such a wonderful women. Ahhh a Gemini! Very cool. This explains so much.
I don't know if I would rather have an action packed short life like so many I have known or a long relatively uneventful one. There has to be an in-between. Do you not think so? I think I am headed for the first of the two. Which is OK I guess. It would be hard to stop now and I would really want to stop it, which I am not sure If I do. Very interesting question Tanuki. I have often thought of this myself.
I think Marilyn was so beautiful so for you to tell me (and I do not mean just looks) sounds crazy to me. I am not sure if that is truly possible.
Sorry for the typos if there are some.

Well, yeah it sounds crazy, because I'm crazy about you! =)

Symbolically speaking, Marilyn is a whim, a marketing icon. You're the tangible earth-mother fantasy, in-the-moment doorway to eternal light, natural and supernatural, the "flexing bodhisattva hippie rock-and-roll chick".

You should have her marketing team!

Oh, everybody makes typos--I'm full of typos. Please don't worry about that. It's awful that I've made you self conscious. It's only the "then/than" confusion I was worried about because you ended one of your poems with the line "better off then dead". Fageddaboutit.

It's not uncommon to lead a long, active life--may yours be such.

For us numerology fans, it's an interesting coincidence that Marilyn's year of birth and year of death have the same numbers, only reversed, and that all of those numbers added together add up to the number 9, the number of the Goddess:

    1926-1962

    1+9+2+6 = 18 1+8=_9_ / 1+9+6+2 = 18 1+8=_9_ / 9+9=18 1+8=_9_.

So, who is the most beautiful goddess born in 1962 to take her place? (I'm thinking I know the answer to that question, but I could be wrong.)

Anyway, if it's true that "beuaty is in the eye of the beholder", it's more than possible.
