MORE FLAB. HUGE JAB
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 20:40 DOCTORS will need longer needles to inject medicine because patients' bottoms are getting fatter, it was claimed yesterday.
And the problem is worse with women -who have "larger, more fatty bottoms".
A study found increasing obesity meant drugs were not being properly administered in a large number of cases.
In the study, reported in the British Medical Journal, Dr Andrew Nisbet said: "Standard green and blue needles do not reach the gluteal muscles in a considerable number of patients."
Dr Nisbet, the senior anaesthetics house officer at Jersey General Hospital, studied pelvic X-rays of 100 patients.
He said: "In a population that is increasingly overweight, factors could become more exaggerated, leading overall to less effective injections. Link
