David Bieber Florida bodybuilder arrested for murder in the UK

Bieber Caught In Britain.He fled halfway around the world to start a new life, but David Bieber still found himself on the wrong side of the law. The Florida bodybuilder was arrested in Leeds, England for murdering a police constable. Bieber was using the alias Norman Coleman when British police pulled him over for driving a stolen car on December 26, 2003. After being placed in the back of a police car, Bieber pulled out a gun he had concealed from the cops and opened fire. Two of the officers narrowly escaped fatal wounds. Ian Broadhurst would not be so lucky.

After the shooting Bieber fled the scene, leading British authorities to launch a three day manhunt that ended when an anonymous tipster told cops where he was hiding. Police then arrested the man they knew as Norman Coleman, but he was later identified as David Bieber.

Bieber Gets Life.On Thursday, December 2, 2004, an English judge handed down three life sentences to David Bieber for the murder of Police Constable Ian Broadhurst and the attempted murders of PC Neil Roper and PC James Banks. Witnesses in the court say that Bieber simply smirked when hearing of his fate -- life behind bars without parole. But his reaction a few minutes later was anything but calm.

As Bieber was led to a prison van after the pronouncement, he asked for time to speak to his lawyer. The guards told him he would have to make an appointment.  That's when Bieber lost it. He began to scream and fight with the guards. It took six officers to restrain him and get him into the vehicle.

During the 11-day trial, the jury heard a frightening audiotape of Bieber's fatal encounter with the police constables. The jury heard police constable Ian Broadhurst, already disabled from a shot to the stomach, screaming and pleading for his life moments before Bieber placed the gun to his head and squeezed the trigger, delivering a cold-blooded mortal blow. Detectives are now reinvestigating some other murder cases in Britain, believing that Bieber may have worked as a hit man once he arrived in the UK seven years ago. America's Most Wanted click here
