Give Uncle Neil a chance. The concert movie Neil Young shot last summer will premiere at a film festival this month, before moving into theaters. It's called Neil Young: Heart Of Gold, and it will first be shown at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, which runs from January 25th through the 28th. After that, Heart Of Gold will open in movie theaters in New York City, Toronto, Los Angeles, and San Francisco beginning February 10th. There's no word yet on when it will move into a wider release. Heart Of Gold was shot over two nights at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville back in August. The movie was produced and directed by Jonathan Demme, whose credits include the Talking Heads movie Stop Making Sense and theatrical releases including The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia. Neil Young is a musical genius, his mastery of the guitar and incredible skill as a songwriter put him head and shoulders above the rest in a world where "dinosaur" rockers fail to evolve. While he pursued a solo career, he was also a member of Buffalo Springfield in the late sixties, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young in the early seventies. His own band Crazy Horse was the subject of a 1997 documentary directed by Jim Jarmusch titled "Year of the Horse". Neil Young recently got his name added to the Canadian Walk of Fame. | |
