ISINBAYEVA SETS WORLD RECORD
"... Isinbayeva broke the pole vault world record with a clearance of 4.91metres as she claimed Olympic gold in the pole vault.
The Russian star fought off a stern, predicted challenge from compatriot and fierce rival Svetlana Feofanova to win.
She had looked in trouble when she failed at 4.70 and 4.75 and at that stage was within one more failure of bowing out.
That would have handed Feofanova gold, but Isinbayeva, who already held the world record at 4.90m, then went over at 4.80m and her rival was unable to respond.
Feofanova, the reigning world champion, was unable to clear 4.85m, a height Isinbayeva did make.
With the pressure off, Isinbayeva then attempted 4.91m which she successfully made, much to the delight of the packed Olympic Stadium."
