ATHENS, Greece -- Of all the unexpected, incredible and mind-boggling feats that swimmer Michael Phelps has accomplished at the Olympics, perhaps the most astonishing happened Friday night -- on dry land.
About 30 minutes after winning a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly and clinching a berth on the U.S. 4 x 100-meter medley relay team, Phelps relinquished his spot in the relay to Ian Crocker, the runner-up in the 100 butterfly.
