08.21.2004:Kluft with Huge Lead After 5 Events

From athens2004.com :

"Women's Heptathlon After five events: Kluft with a huge lead  21 Aug. 2004

ATHENS, 21 August - The 2003 IAAF World Champion, Carolina KLUFT (SWE) is heading towards an Olympic gold medal.

Provided she gets a decent result in the javelin the Swede can expect to coast through the 800m this evening and claim the top prize.

KLUFT experienced some nervous moments during the Paris World Championships a year ago, fouling on her first two long jump attempts. Today, she fouled her first attempt which raised some eyebrows, but then she gathered herself to record a decent 6.54m on her second. On the third she improved to 6.78m and appears on target for another 7000 point score.

KLUFT is leading with 5208 points after five events, 329 points more than Kelly SOTHERTON (GBR) in second place with 4879. However, KLUFT has thrown the javelin ten metres farther than the British athlete."
