07.21.2004:Newcastle signs Kluievert

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Barcelona's Dutch international striker Patrick Kluivert. The 28-year-old, who was told by Barcelona in May he could leave the club despite having another year to run on his contract, has signed a three-year deal on Tyneside. Newcastle manager Bobby Robson said: 'I've known Patrick for many years...he's a player of immense experience and great stature. He's played for the top clubs in his career.'

This report from ESPN.com corrects my previous blog on Barcelona, which stated that Klievert was in Barcelona. The Newcastle signing was only reported today.
