Jim Pettis of Melbourne wins lightweight title

Ten years ago, Melbourne's Jim Pettis weighed 240 pounds, had a 40-inch waist and loved to eat fast food.

Today, the 1993 Eau Gallie High graduate is a muscular 5-foot-10, 147 pounds with a 30-inch waist. He's also a bodybuilding champion -- for the first time ever.
Pettis late last month completed an amazing transformation when he won the men's lightweight bodybuilding title at the Space Coast Bodybuilding Championships at the Eau Gallie High auditorium. It was the first bodybuilding championship in nine shows for the Connecticut native.
"I had always finished in the top three," said Pettis, who works as a manager at Hawk's Gym in Indialantic. "It was a joy to win it."
Pettis was one of several local athletes to excel in the Space Coast Bodybuilding Championships, a Class IV event that drew 55 competitors from across Florida.
