IT'S the archeologhical find that rewrites the evolution of man - and it's hobbit sized.
Scientists have unearthed the bones of a human dwarf species in Indonesia that existed as recently as 18,000 years ago.
One specimen, an adult female just 3ft tall, has been described as "the most extreme" figure to be included in the extended human family.
This creature, found in a cave 13 months ago, lived on the island of Flores and is the best example fom the bones from at least seven of these primitives.
Scientists have named the new species Homo floresiensis, or Flores Man. The specimens' ages range from 95,000 to 12,000 years old.
